Experience
Sailing since childhood; professional skipper and instructor since 2012

I teach on monohulls and catamarans from 30 to 60 feet, the boats most often chartered in the Adriatic. Whether you step onto a performance cruiser or a roomy catamaran, I focus on clean boat handling and calm leadership on board.

Through Skipper Hotline I'm also the safety net on call for sailors on their own: weather routing, berth reservations and help when something on board stops working. My goal is to close the gap between holding a license and running the boat yourself, so your time in Croatian waters is safe, full of local insight, and a joy.

Two ways to train

  • A few days

    Polish specific skills

Book a few targeted days for what you want to be sure of before your trip: docking in the marinas you will use, anchoring, sail handling, or all of them.

  • A full week

Your charter week, with an instructor on board

One-on-one support for the whole week: you skipper and practice as you cruise, with an experienced skipper double-checking the key decisions.

Note: the program can change with the weather. When conditions call for it, the instructor adapts the plan, so the training stays as safe and as useful as it can be.

Language: the training is taught in English. It can be taught in Croatian or Slovenian only if all the participants speak that language.

What you can practice

You choose the focus. For example:

Docking & boat handling

  • Stern-to (Med mooring) and side-to docking
  • Leaving tight berths using spring lines
  • Turning in tight spaces
  • Crosswind approaches and safe abort plans

Buoys & anchoring

  • Picking up a mooring buoy, with clear crew roles
  • Anchoring: choosing the spot, chain length, checking the hold

Sailing & skipper routines

  • Hoisting, trimming and reefing the sails
  • Daily route and weather decisions
  • Crew roles and communication

Q&A: Private sailing training

What is private sailing training?

Private training with Skipper Hotline is 1-on-1 with a local professional skipper, on the dates that suit you, in Punat on Krk or in other Croatian marinas. We train only what you need, for example docking a catamaran, leaving a tight berth with spring lines, or anchoring in a crowded bay. It suits beginners and experienced skippers, and it is a good next step after a group course.

How much does a private sailing lesson cost?

2027 prices:

  • On a boat you own: €250 a day plus food. For bookings shorter than 7 days, travel costs and travel time are added.
  • On your charter week: an instructor on board for the whole week, €250 a day plus food.
Where can I have private training?

On your own boat or on your charter boat, in Punat on Krk or in the main charter regions of Croatia: Istria, Kvarner, Zadar, Šibenik, Split and Dubrovnik.

Can an instructor join my charter week?

Yes, for the whole week. You stay the skipper and practice every day, with an experienced skipper next to you who checks the key decisions. We don't offer an instructor for only the first days of a charter, because in high season it can't be organized.

What can we practice in private training?

Whatever you need. Common requests are:

  • docking a catamaran with two engines
  • stern-to docking in crosswind
  • leaving a tight berth with spring lines
  • anchoring with a line to the shore
  • sail trim and reefing
  • planning a route and choosing a safe place for the night
How many days of private training do I need?

From 1 to 7 days. One or two days are often enough to fix one skill, such as docking. A full week on your charter gives you practice in every situation of a real trip.

Can I bring my partner or crew to private training?

Yes. Private training is priced per day, not per person, so your partner or crew can train with you on the same boat.

Who teaches the private training?

One of our instructors: Filip Đurić, Lukas Morožin or Ante Kljenak. You can choose the instructor in the request form on this page. All three work as professional skippers on sailboats and catamarans every summer.

What do students say about private training?
  • "As an instructor, he is very clear, structured, and effective. He explains complex sailing situations in excellent English and makes them understandable even for beginners." (Mark M.)
  • "Filip first helped me get a feel for the boat and went through all the docking and casting-off maneuvers with me. … Despite stressful situations, I had the boat under control at all times." (Benedikt S., translated from German)
How do I book private training?

Send the request form on this page with the dates, the region and the boat type, or write to us on WhatsApp (+385 91 591 1123). We reply with the plan and the price for your days.

More questions about all our courses, such as prices, licenses and what to bring, are answered on the sailing school page.
